About Rob

Robert D. Heyboer, 40 years old, lives in Lexington with his wife Cora and three children, Everett, Finnegan, and Jeffrey.

Rob grew up in Lakeport, Michigan. Baptized Catholic, he attended St. Edwards on the Lake Catholic School Elementary School and McCormick Catholic Academy. Rob attended Port Huron Nothern High School. Growing up, Rob played travel hockey and soccer throughout the Great Lakes states and Canada.

Robert met Cora Armstrong while attending Central Michigan University, and they married in 2012.

​

Cora Heyboer was a special education teacher until 2018 when she became a transition coordinator for a program that assists 18-26 year old special education students.

Legal Experience

Robert graduated from Thomas M Cooley Law School in 2013. While in law school, he gained courtroom experience at the Washtenaw Public Defender Office, representing youth and teenagers who found themselves in trouble.

Upon graduation, Rob entered private practice with his father, David, and brother, Michael. Rob and Michael are third-generation attorneys, and their father started his career in the St. Clair County Prosecutor's Office. Rob practiced a variety of areas of law, including criminal, driver's license restoration, civil, bankruptcy, landlord/tenant, domestic relations, child abuse/neglect as Guardian ad Litem for children, contract, probate, and PPOs. He is sworn in to practice in the United States Eastern District Court of Michigan. He has experience with specialty courts, including mental health, substance abuse, and alcohol abuse. He has appeared in many county courts throughout lower Michigan. Rob has kept up with legal training by attending programs through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan.

Rob joined the Sanilac County Prosecuting Attorney's office as an Assistant Prosecutor in 2021. He built trusting relationships with law enforcement, met with victims for their input in cases, and appeared prepared in all court hearings he was assigned from arraignments to trials, sentencings, and other hearings. He also continued his legal training through the Prosecuting Attorney Coordinating Council.

Rob now is the Coordinator of Indigent Defense, putting emphasis on having an attorney present and prepared at all proceedings. He serves on the Sanilac County Courthouse Security Committee. In March, Rob was elected President of the Sanilac County Bar Association.
